Jump into the rewarding world of woodworking. Whether you've been craving get out of the office to use your hands or if it's something you've wanted to develop for a few years but just didn't know where to start. Here is your chance! These classes invigorate and quench our natural reward systems and leave us inspired to create more.

We will cover:

Designing your own piece of furniture! I will assist you in the drawing up of some basic plans. If you bring some ideas or sketches we can start to formulate a design in the first initial meet where we will sit down for an hour and talk about your design. 

Training you to utilise Japanese joints in your designs, interlocking legs and rails ect

Glue-ups, setting out timbers

Developing strong skills with the hand plane, smoothing timber

Develop confidence with the chisel

Sanding & finishing

We will also cover all aspects of sharpening and honing our chisels and planes 

What you need to know about the make your own classes:

The price of the course does not cover the cost of timber. During the initial design meetup, I'll give you some timber options. Once you've decided, I'll pick up the timber and prepare it for the first hands on class. This might include me milling the timber to a more suitable size in preparation for your first build evening. I'll make contact with you to arrange a private design meetup seesion one week prior to the 22nd of July start date, which gives enough time for me to organise timber for you in the interim.

At points we might have to utilise power tools for certain steps of the build. We wont be using any dangerous tools and you'll have to be inducted  for any electric tools you do use.

The classes are not for very, very large projects. They also lean towards detail and the utilisation of Japanese timber joints as stated above.

Your project could be anything from a coffee table, bedside table, Carpenters toolbox, chest of drawers, record cabinet. The possibilities are endless. 

The cost is for four sessions over the course of a month. Depending on the size of your project, you can top up for a second or even third month at a reduced cost.

COST:

$450 For the first month, plus an preliminary design session. second and third months are a cheaper rate ($350)

OR

***Journeyman package*** $150 add-on which includes everything stated above, plus a high quality chisel, professional Japanese pull saw and square to take with you after the course finishes.
